About
Who is Alex Gordon Hi-Fi?
Alex Gordon Hi-Fi is me, Alex Gordon. I stick a ‘Hi-Fi’
on there to distinguish my presence from the other “imposterous” Alex Gordons in the world. I have been playing the guitar officially since 1988, though my six-string interest initially began in 1985, when I saw Marty McFly imitating Chuck Berry in “Back To The Future.” Not long after, that initial interest exploded into a full-blown obsession when I saw “The Buddy Holly Story.” At that point, the guitar simply had to become a part of my life. I’ve never felt as if I chose to play the guitar. A more accurate description would be that the universe suddenly smacked me across the face one day and said, “This is a guitar. Now, get to work.” So I did.
- excerpt from my book "A Starter's Guide To Baritone Guitar"
Don't be fooled. No matter how well someone can play the guitar now,
NO ONE plays the guitar well when they first pick it up.
It takes time, effort and dedication, but YOU CAN DO IT, TOO!
My teaching journey began over 30 years ago. Over the years, I've quite enjoyed the time spent sharing whatever knowledge my experience as a professional musician and scholar as wrought. The study of music is an ongoing road with no evident destination on the ever expansive horizon and that goes for everyone. As my teaching has progressed, so has my own education. There is no arrival or satiation point. In my decades of music study, I have found that my appetite for creative quests has only grown stronger than when I started out. Conceiving and mapping out concepts or exercises for students is as much of a learning experience for me as it hopefully is for them.
I currently offer private online lessons for all ages and skill levels, as well as a number of pre-recorded lessons, video courses, workbooks and texts. Some of these are available for free, some at cost. Please feel free to browse around or reach out if I can be of any assistance. Aside from my wife and son, playing the guitar is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me and devoting my life to the pursuit of music has been a dream come true.
